

JOB TITLE: Adviser
LOCATION: Hancock and Hawkins Counties
PROGRAM: EOC
POSITION SUMMARY: Provides one-on-one assistance to participants concerning the college admissions process, financial aid, and other services to improve financial and economic literacy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Recruit participants for program enrollment

Screen and verify participants for program enrollment eligibility and assesses needs
-
Provide one-on-one assistance to participants concerning high school academics, the college admissions process, financial aid, career choices and goals, etc.

Conduct or assist with college/career/financial aid workshops for participants and parents.

Market the program to recruit participants through outreach initiatives, print materials, broadcast, and through visiting area businesses and community partners.

Develop program relationships with colleges, schools, parents, local businesses, and other community agencies.

Maintain participant and project records and reports in accordance with funding source and agency requirements.

Keep accurate records of program data necessary for reporting services and activities to the Department of Education and agency.

Meet monthly, quarterly, and yearly program objectives.

Work with other local DCEA Trio programs to ensure effective collaboration.

Provide the above services in other areas served by DCEA Trio programs when needed.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS :
Education Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in social work, psychology, education, counseling, or other human service-related field is preferred, but not required.
Experience Requirements:
-
Two years delivering educational and or counseling services for disadvantaged populations, including assessing needs and developing services plans with secondary and post-secondary goals/strategies is preferred but not required.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Travel in the Trio service area
-
Weekend work is required
-
Overnight and/or extended travel in and out of state to attend meetings as required

Work schedule may change temporarily due to special events

Demonstrated computer proficiency is a must
-
Must have demonstrated the ability to work with diverse groups of people, handle multiple tasks, and learn and perform tasks with limited supervision

Strong public relations skills, energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and good communication skills.

Must have valid Tennessee driver’s license and proof of liability insurance on automobile.

Ability to make sound decisions

Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, both orally and in writing

Demonstrated success in overcoming barriers similar to the target population to be served
